Sometimes it’s not about how you are performing in the gym, but what you are doing outside that is making the difference between reaching your fitness goals or not.

Yes, it’s true that eating right, hydrating, and getting rest are all things you do outside the gym that help with overall fitness, but that’s not what we are talking about here.

Check out these 4 ways to improve your workout routine.

1. Stress Less

Did you know that too much stress can cause you to binge eat, drink more (no water), and make poor choices throughout your day and week? Also, stress can cause a surge in the fat-storing hormone cortisol. When you have a high amount of this in your system it can cause muscle breakdown and extra storage of belly fat.

The point? Manage your stress. Build stress-relieving activities into your schedule. This can include walking, reading, being outdoors, or even taking a nap (awesome right?). The more you can manage your stress, the better your results will be from your gym efforts.

2. Stay Consistent

It doesn’t matter if you go hard for one week in the gym and then never come back. Those who reach their fitness goals are in it for the long haul and stay consistent throughout the entire year. You have to think of this as an investment and investments take time to pay off. But we promise that if you are dedicated and consistent in showing up, you’ll see those results you are looking for and reach those goals.

3. Set Achievable Goals

Speaking of goals, set goals you can achieve. Whether it’s lifting heavier, losing weight, or looking a certain way, make sure it’s attainable. Why? Because there’s nothing more discouraging then setting an unrealistic goal and never hitting it. Start by speaking with your coach, tell them your goals and let put together a plan that will help get you there. Focus on smaller steps to reach long-term success.
