With the holidays in full swing, it’s important to remember that around every corner are cakes, pies, cookies, hot chocolate, and a dozen other tasty treats. It’s no secret that when the colder weather hits, we tend to crave comfort foods. But it’s important to keep in mind that most us didn’t work this hard and train this hard to see it all go out the window in a few months.
Here are a few ways to exercise responsibility this holiday and winter season.
Set the Rules
Now, we’re saying you need to write an entire book and carry it around with you wherever you go. But perhaps just make a few decisions beforehand. If you are attending a holiday party, make the decision of what and how much you are going to eat of the sweet stuff. It isn’t a crime to eat these holiday treats, but it’s important to have limitations and know those limitations beforehand.
Remember Your Goals
At the beginning of training, each member usually has a set of goals. These are the goals that drive you to train, to create better habits, and to keep showing up. The last thing we want is to see those goals shelved because someone offers you a slice of pie. Take the slice of pie, but maybe don’t eat the whole pie. There’s a difference between allowing yourself to enjoy holiday treats and being irresponsible.
Accountability
The coach isn’t the only person here to keep you accountable. Rely on your community to help you throughout the season. Make the decision to be open and honest. This isn’t a shame-fest, but allowing your community to remind you of why you train and where you want to be in six to eight months. Celebrate the holidays knowing that you have made good decisions.
